Our photography background has evolved like any creative form throughout the years, and we've been fortunate enough to be able to dabble in a variety of documentary, travel and portrait photography.

We have also been hired a few times to work on product marketing photography, and now with the advent of the legal cannabis industry in California, we want to expand and offer our services to the cannabis industry.

Check out some of our favorite shots over the years, with plenty of more to come soon.

5 Things

We're keeping out 2016 promise by sharing with you all another short, fun, and casual video about things that Afonso does to keep his creativity up.

Quickly going over FIVE little things that are key to his daily life, Afonso then concentrates on talking a little more about one particular item that is probably well known to anyone working as an artist.

Take a look below, re-share it, and join our Sutro Learning efforts at:

Rent our Gear

What better way to start a New Year than organizing our side of things to be able to share the love? So here we are, and we're happy to announce that we are now putting (a lot) of our gear available for rent.

We promise to give you great prices, but since we're just another small business in the Bay Area, we also require you to have proof of insurance to make sure any damage to our gear will be covered by you.

We don't ship our products. Our main office is located in Oakland, CA, and you can pick it up and deliver it here. But. We're awesome. We're hard creative workers like yourself, and we promise you'll love all our items as much as we do.

And what better way to help you get creative in 2016?

So go ahead. Check out what we currently have (new items added often), fill out the form with more details about your needs, and we'll live happily ever after!

North Adams

We recently partnered up again with one of our favorite production companies and regular collaborators from Oct28 Productions, to create another customer success story for Borrego Solar.

Keeping with the cinematic style we usually go for in all our stories, and the outstanding creative skills of our friends in NY, we were able to create another perfect mini-documentary about a new solar array installation, this time in the town of North Adams, NY.

The video was shot and filmed on-location by our friends, who then proceeded to send us the footage for us to edit and grade here at Sutro Studios. It's another showcase of the modern times we live in and the great ways we can remotely collaborate to create high-quality cinematic content for companies and businesses.

Hello Oakland

We are proud to announce that we just got the keys for our new office space in Oakland, right by the Fox Theater and the creative center of the Art Murmur Fridays.

We will have many more news to share soon regarding this new adventure, but for now, check out the photo below. The space has a ton of old furniture that is already being cleaned out, and we will start setting it up this coming week or two with our gear, computers, and some nice lighting...

And if you're interested in sharing it with us, why not shoot us an email? It's a big space, and we love creative company!

Once we're fully ready to fly, come say hi and grab a coffee with us.

Sunny Anaheim

We are proud to share our most recent video, this time in partnership with one of our favorite clients Borrego Solar, a Bay Area company.

The $5.7 million project managed by Anaheim Public Utilities was completed mid-August by Borrego Solar Systems Inc., a leading designer, developer, installer and financier of grid tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The installation covers 300,000 square feet on the rooftop of Exhibit Halls A, B and C. With 7,908 installed solar panels, at the time of it's completion, the installation was the largest city-owned, convention center, roof-mounted system in North America. The system will generate an estimated 3.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually — enough energy to power 600 homes for a year.

Please go to Borrego Solar's website, for more on the project:

We were on location for a couple of days covering the inauguration event, filming and interviewing the people behind this project using our professional gear of Sony, Canon, and BlackMagic Design cameras, lenses, and accessories. All lighting used was by LitePanels and ARRI, and we used a DJI drone for all the aerial shots.

Final editing was done in Final Cut, and color grading in our calibrated suite using DaVinci Resolve.

Anaheim Solar

We recently completed a video using one of our drones to capture stunning footage of the brand new Anaheim Convention Center solar array installation on their rooftop.

This video was used during the inauguration event for the solar array at the Convention Center a few days after.

Aerial footage of the 2.4 MW roof-mounted solar PV system on top of Exhibit Halls A, B and C and the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California. At time of completion, the project was the largest city-owned, convention center, roof-mounted PV system in North America. The $5.7 million project covered 300,000+ square feet of space and is owned and managed by the Anaheim Public Utilities and was completed in August of 2014.

Thank you for another great collaboration with Borrego Solar!

One Year.

And so it is. We managed to survive our first year of existence, thanks to all your love. From starting out with an insanely successful Kickstarter campaign, to working with non-profits, traveling and documenting some major events in Haiti, participating in conferences around the world, representing San Francisco in Iceland with a group of amazingly talented people, and much much more, it was a year of adventures, excitement, challenges, and new discoveries.

We couldn't be more appreciative of everything you've done for us, the support you've given us and the love you've shared for our work throughout the year. We are so excited for 2014 and for whatever comes our way creatively throughout this new year, and we'd like you to join us in this new adventure.

We already have some major things planned, including a biking trip through Zambia in July... but there will be plenty of other details soon. So come on in. Send us a hello. And let's work together.

The most innovative Portuguese working abroad

The weekly Portuguese news magazine Sábado just published a new edition with a cover article about the most innovative Portuguese who are currently working abroad. They chose five people to talk about their careers and how they are finding success, and failure, while taking risks and moving forward in their respective fields.

Sutro Studios got a mention through Afonso Salcedo, one of the five people mentioned in the article. Congratulations to everyone involved, and all the other people chosen for the article.

You can read the whole thing below by clicking on the thumbnails (Portuguese language only).

Sutro Stickers with QR codes

After yesterday's success of the website launch for the documentary film There Was Magic, we couldn't be happier to see so many people interested in our project.

We wanted to share some little cool stickers we did with Moo to help brand our packaging and letters to our clients, and hopefully, Kickstarter backers. There are incredibly high quality glossy vinyl stickers, just a bit over a quarter coin in size. The QR code will lead you directly to our website, if you scan it with your iOS/Android device.

It's the little things...

Sutro cards

To celebrate and match the new design of our website, we got some new business cards made for Sutro Studios. Very minimal design, with a QR code in the front that takes you straight to our website, and of course, the contact details in the back.

Our new design works flawlessly on every mobile platform and should make it easy to access on Android/iOS devices.

We have new photo galleries coming up soon, new video work we've done recently, our film There Was Magic, and also an e-commerce store!

Antena 3

Afonso Salcedo just did a one hour interview over the phone with one of the most highly respected and listened to Radio shows in Portugal, Portugal 3.0. The show aired on Antena 3 this past Thursday evening, with a repeat air date this coming Sunday, May 19th at 6pm Lisbon time.

Afonso's whole career was talked about, including a big blurb on the work Sutro Studios is making and the new film There Was Magic, which is coming out soon.

You can listen to the interview here, but it's all in Portuguese.
